Hamburg, August 27, 2024 - scoopcamp, the conference for the publishers of the future, is entering the next round. On September 11, 2024, the industry will meet in Hamburg to discuss the most pressing challenges and latest developments in journalism. This year, the conference will focus on the question of financing journalism. With exciting keynotes, panel discussions and interactive sessions, renowned speakers will once again shed light on the core topics of the industry from a financing perspective: from the creator economy and new monetization strategies to the role of artificial intelligence in journalism.
The scoopcamp is now being jointly organized for the second time by nextMedia.Hamburg and a Germany-wide board of leading media companies. These include dpa, Zeit Online, Norddeutscher Rundfunk, DER SPIEGEL, NOZ Digital, G+J / RTL, Hamburger Abendblatt, OMR, Hamburger Morgenpost, Handelsblatt Media Group and Bauer Xcel Media.
Opening and scoop Award 2024: A look into the future of journalism
The innovation conference will be opened by Nina Klaß, Head of nextMedia.Hamburg, before Dr. Carsten Brosda, Hamburg's Senator for Culture and Media, presents the "scoop Award". This year, the award goes to journalists Ulf Buermeyer and Philip Banse for their podcast "Lage der Nation". The podcast is being honored for its outstanding, interactive and contemporary presentation of current issues. In a subsequent discussion with Nina Klaß, the award winners will talk about the future of journalism and innovative monetization and communication strategies.
Monetization: Strategies for a sustainable future of journalism
The conference program covers a total of five central topics that are of particular importance for digital journalism. One of the central topics of scoopcamp 2024 is the monetization of digital content. At a time when traditional advertising revenues are stagnating, alternative business models are becoming increasingly important. In the panel "Digital subscriptions: a look back at 10+ years of paid content and strategies for the future", industry experts Johannes Vogel (Stern, GEO,Capital), Johannes Hauner (Süddeutsche Zeitung) and Christoph Zimmer (DER SPIEGEL) will reflect on their experiences and offer valuable insights into the development and future of digital subscription models. In addition, Arist von Harpe (Hamburger Morgenpost) and Cordula Schmitz (Hamburger Abendblatt) will provide insights into the successful transformation of the Hamburger Morgenpost (Mopo) into a weekly magazine and the associated challenges under the title "WochenMOPO und 20 Mio. monatliche Online-Besuche: Transformation der ältesten Boulevardzeitung Deutschlands". Chief Content Director Franziska Happe (Bauer Xcel Media) will present new approaches and learnings in the field of content marketing in her keynote speech "Content Commerce: The better advertising".
Creator economy and journalism: learning from experts
Another focus of the conference is on the creator economy and its significance for journalism. Content creator and journalist Fabian Grischkat will give the keynote speech in his presentation on the topic of "Newsfluencer", emphasizing why community building is important in times of artificial intelligence. Afterwards, Adil Sbai (WeCreate), Bernd Hellermann (Gruner + Jahr) and Dr. Johanna Leuschen (NDR) will discuss the opportunities that arise from working with digital creators.
Further topics: Artificial intelligence, beyond news and new platforms
The topic of artificial intelligence (AI) is also playing an increasingly important role in journalism and will therefore be explored in depth at scoopcamp 2024. Louisa Riepe (NOZ) and Joachim Dreykluft (Upscore) will discuss in a panel how AI influences referral traffic and changes news consumption through generative search and conversational AI. Katja Fleischmann (dpa) and Bianca Voigt (Zeit Online) will then shed light on the topic of "AI and DRIVE - what is happening in Europe's largest collaborative data project?". In the topic area "Beyond News", the importance of new applications and technologies will be discussed. Michael Lenz (InnoGames) and Imke Becker (Zeit Online) will explain what publishers can learn from the gaming industry in terms of monetization through engagement. Roja Kunze (DER SPIEGEL) will provide a further exciting impulse with her presentation "Bye- bye Hate Speech, hello Community - the creation of SPIEGEL Debatte". Finally, the topic "New media, new platforms" is dedicated to modern media houses and alternative networks. Roland Eisenbrand (OMR) will provide insights into the financing of OMR, and Björn Staschen (TheNewSocial.de) and Sascha Foerster (Bonn.digital & Bonn.social) will discuss the use of networks such as Fediverse and Mastodon in journalism.
