Dr. Carsten Brosda

Dr. Carsten Brosda was born in Gelsenkirchen in 1974; he is married and the father of two children. He studied journalism and political science at the University of Dortmund and, as part of his studies, completed an internship at the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung in Essen. He then earned his doctorate from the Faculty of Cultural Studies at the University of Dortmund with a dissertation on “Discursive Journalism.”

From 2000 to 2005, Dr. Carsten Brosda served as press officer and editor, and later as speechwriter and advisor on policy issues for the SPD Party Executive Committee. He then headed the Speeches, Texts, and Analyses Division at the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs from 2005 to 2009 and also served as deputy head of the ministry’s Management and Planning Staff from 2008 to 2009. From 2010 to 2011, he served as Head of the Communications Division on the SPD Party Executive Board.

From June 2011 to February 2016, Dr. Carsten Brosda headed the Media Office at the Hamburg Senate Chancellery and, beginning in 2013, also served as the Senate’s Plenipotentiary for Media. From March 2016 to January 2017, he served as State Councilor at the Authority for Culture and as State Councilor in the Senate Chancellery for Media and Digitalization. Since February 1, 2017, Dr. Carsten Brosda has been Senator of the Authority for Culture and Media of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Since November 2020, he has also served as President of the German Stage Association.
